The Thoroughbred

The Thoroughbred was developed in England in the late 1600's by crossing native English horses
with 3 or 4 Arabian stallions imported to England in the late 1600's and early 1700's. Thoroughbred's
generally stand from 15 to 16.3 hands and weigh from 1000 to 1400 pounds. They are noted for
their speed and athletic ability and their temperaments are considered to be more nervous than most
riding horses. Terms such as high strung, and flighty are not uncommon.
