I am new to dressage training, and I read an article about putting the horse "on the bit" Unfortunately, it did not explain exactly how do do it.
So how do you put a horse on the bit? |

To help your horse come on the bit, try the following:
1.First, focus on your position. Make sure you have a balanced, independent seat and can follow the movement of your horse. Sit upright with shouldrs back and down. Let your legs hang. Your shoulder, hips and heels should form a vertical line. Have a nice bend in the elbows. Your wrist should not be curled.
2. You need to learn about and understand all the basic aids that are used in riding. This is a good term in that it is often the coordination and timing between seat, weight, leg, and rein aids that gives the rider the result she is looking for. Getting a horse on the bit is often a question of coordination how much leg, how much rein,, how much too give and so forth. If you like I can give you some exercise to do. |

May I suggest reading the book "The Classical Seat " by Sylvia Loch its a
great guide for the everyday rider. |
